Expanded Beam Performance

Expanded Beam Performance technology offers outstanding optical performance and remains stable even under mechanical stress, environmental influences or in harsh environments.

Thanks to the non-contact design, Expanded Beam connections are particularly resistant to contamination and are easy to clean. Under normal conditions, cleaning is not necessary, which ensures reliable and long-lasting transmission - without any damage.

Rely on first-class transmission quality and maximum robustness, even with many mating cycles!

The complex ferrule design allows 12 optical fibers to be connected using lenses based on expanded beam technology. Due to the scattering of the light signal, neither direct contacting of the end faces nor cleaning before each plugging process is necessary. Built into robust connectors, the technology offers the optimum solution for data transmission in harsh environments.

Advanced technology based on Expanded Beam

  • 12 fibers per ferrule
  • No cleaning under normal conditions
  • Extremely low attenuation values even under harsh environmental conditions
  • 50,000 mating cycles
  • Insertion loss:
    • SM: < 0,35 dB (typical) / < 0.7 dB (max.)
    • MM: < 0,15 dB (typical) / < 0.3 dB (max.)
  • Return loss:
    • SM: > 60 dB (typical) / ≥ 55 dB (min.)
    • MM: > 45 dB (typical) / ≥ 35 dB (min.)

Scalability depending on the requirements of the system

The size and shape allow several contact elements to be arranged in a very small space, which means that the excellent transmission properties can also be scaled to larger systems. The design follows a cassette principle that is based on the installation space requirements of the connector.

Low-maintenance connection solutions for individual requirements

Expanded Beam Performance is available in various dimensions and connection solutions. Depending on requirements, between 12 and 96 optical fibers can be connected in a low-maintenance interface using circular connectors or backplane connectors.
