The ODU Expanded Beam Performance portfolio comprises complete system solutions for the secure transmission of data. Based on the future VITA 95 and VITA 96 standards, the lens-based fiber optic technology is the ideal solution for demanding environments such as military aviation.
With up to 96 fibers per connector, data is transmitted at the speed of light, while the necessary maintenance is reduced to a minimum. The high resistance to contamination and wear and tear enables long-term use under adverse conditions and ensures the necessary data flow.
Expanded Beam Performance finally provides a technology that combines durability and resistance to dirt with excellent transmission properties.
At the heart of the portfolio is the lens-based Expanded Beam Performance contact technology. Here are the reasons why Expanded Beam Performance is beneficial for your application:
Fiber optic cables use thin glass fibers to transmit light pulses, which are mainly used to transmit data. There are two main types of optical fibers: Singlemode and Multimode, the use of which depends on the specific requirements of each application ...
I/O interfaces are exposed to higher levels of stress in daily use than the connections integrated inside embedded systems. Dust, dirt, aerosols, and liquids can more easily reach the external connections. Additional mechanical stresses are more likely to occur...
Where’s the difference between lens systems and physical contact in fiber optics? Learn about the pros and cons of both technologies and discover how Expanded Beam combines their strengths for optimal data transmission.
Your solution for data transmission in demanding environments.
The low-maintenance fiber optic technology provides decisive added value for data transmission in demanding military applications. With standardization according to VITA 95 and VITA 96, VITA enables simpler integration into existing systems and provides an important foundation for the upcoming generation change in data transmission using fiber optic connections.
Robust, reliable and durable. Based on decades of experience in the development of connection solutions, ODU offers specialized solutions for the demanding conditions of the military field.
VITA 95 and VITA 96 extend VPX with a low-maintenance fiber optic solution that blends seamlessly into the environment. VITA 95 is a standard that accommodates up to 96 optical fibers in a circular connector with MIL-DTL-38999, Series lll housing. The optimum use is as an I/O interface on the front panel of the computer systems. The ODU portfolio offers solutions under the TACTICS series that meet the requirements of the standards.
The upcoming VITA 96 defines three different dimensions of backplane connectors that enable secure transmission between two PCBs. Connectors according to VITA 96.1, VITA 96.4 and VITA 96.5 are available as ODU BACKPLANE system solutions from the German manufacturer.
In contrast to physical contact connections, the Expanded Beam Performance interfaces do not require cleaning with every mating cycle. They are not susceptible to contamination from dust and can therefore be used for their full service life under normal conditions without a single cleaning. If the ferrule is heavily contaminated, it must be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Yes, all Expanded Beam Performance products are available as system solutions with single or multimode fibers.
The Expanded Beam Performance solutions can be combined with all commercially available interfaces. In addition to an EBP / EBP assembly, combinations with the following standard interfaces are possible, for example: LC, ST, FC, MT, MTP, EBP push-pull, transceiver.
